Moscow. Jun 22, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Ìîñêâà. 22 èþíÿ. /Lesprom Network/. The Business Center Western Europe belonging to MDAX-listed Pfleiderer AG became one of the first companies in the engineered wood sector to have all of its German locations successfully certified under the international Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001, as the company informed Lesprom Network. This means that the Company and its subsidiaries comply with more than just legal regulations in terms of environmental protection. They voluntarily introduced an integrated management system that complies with the ISO 14001 standard in that they review and constantly improve all the Company's business processes in regard to their effects on the environment."As part of the certification process, we installed a management system with a holistic approach that includes quality and safety management as well as the certified environmental management", explained Bernhard Schmidtner, Responsible for Quality, Environmental Protection and Safety at the Business Center Western Europe of Pfleiderer AG. For example, his colleagues in Product Development can use the certified system to take better account of environmental protection and operational safety needs than they could previously. The same is true for all value-creating work processes at the Company, from purchasing raw materials through production down to transporting finished products. The advantages of the new management system are obvious: reducing emissions on an ongoing basis, less work stoppage, lower energy consumption and optimal use of resources. This allows the Company to increase its efficiency even more and cut costs, which is a high priority issue in view of the current tense market situation. "We are proving once again that environmental protection, occupational safety and profitable business are not mutually exclusive", explained Michael Wolff, who heads the Business Center Western Europe of Pfleiderer AG. "Protecting the environment has been part of our corporate principles for a long time now", he continued. Western Europe is the largest business unit in the Pfleiderer Group with eight production loca-tions, around 2,600 employees (including 130 trainees) in Germany as well as two locations in Sweden and currently 53.4% of consolidated revenues. Largely independent business units oper-ate under the umbrella of the BC Western Europe: wodego, the brand in wood and construction materials supply; Thermopal, the brand strongly focused on project business with architects; Pfleiderer Industrie, our partner in the furniture industry; Kunz, which supplies the construction industry with base panels of raw particle board; Duropal, the specialist for laminates and flooring manufacturer Pergo.
