The "Vologda Timber'2000" exhibition was held in December, 1999 to promote the penetration of the oblast's timber to new markets and revive the relations with former buyers. Representatives of foreign companies (from Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Norway, the UK, Finland, Denmark, etc.), Russian oblasts and wood harvesting and processing enterprises of the Vologda oblast partook in the exhibition.
Investing in the wood industry of the Vologda is highly effective and guaranteed by the Vologda Oblast Administration.
The conception of the development of the oblast's wood industry till 2005 has been elaborated, which is to become a set of numerous region's wood industry development programmes.
Within the framework of these programmes it is envisaged to implement investment projects aimed at remodelling operating productions and constructing new industrial premises and infrastructures. For example, it is planned to:
build a cellulose bleaching workshop for the production of high quality paper at the Sokol Pulp & Paper Plant;
set up a production of joinery upon individual orders at the Kharovsk "Lesdok" joint-stock company;
build a workshop for the production of big size plywood on the basis of a Finnish technology at the Cherepovets Plywood and Furniture Factory;
set up a production of furniture made of solid wood at the "Monza DOK" joint-stock company;
purchase technological equipment for the production of furniture sheets made of solid wood and med. density fibreboard (MDF) at the "Progress" joint-stock company.
Serious attention is paid to the training of wood business specialists. At the Vologda Dairy Academy a faculty has been set up where students can obtain a higher education in different specialities relating to the wood industry.
